baa-rakal laahu la-kum, wa baa-raka ‛alay-kum, wa jama‛a ba-yna-kumaa fee khayr
English Translation:
May Allah bless for you your spouse, and bless you, and may He unite both of you in goodness.
It is narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) congratulated a man on his marriage, saying: “May Allah bless for you, and may He bless on you, and combine both of you in good (works).”
Another narration states that Al-Hasan said: “Aqil bin Abi Talib married a woman from Banu Jusham, and it was said to him: ‘May you live in harmony and have many sons.’ He replied: ‘Say what the Messenger of Allah said: Barak Allahu fikum, wa baraka lakum.’”
Advice For a Happy Marriage
Religion should be the focus of all things—it is the key to Jannah. Therefore, your lifelong companion should reflect this commitment. By surrounding yourself with a pious Muslim partner of good character, you will likely benefit from their positive qualities. Marry poorly, and you will reap negative consequences.
“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Qur’an: Chapter 30, Verse 21)
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (pbuh) said: “Women are married for four things: their wealth, their nobility, their beauty and their religious commitment. Choose the one who is religiously committed—may your hands be rubbed with dust.”
The Prophet (pbuh) also said: “The best of you are the best to their families, and I am the best to my family.”
