Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel Dua Meaning

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was reported to have said to a man who asked, “How can I feel at ease when the Angel of the Trumpet (Israfil, one of the four archangels) has put his lips to the Trumpet and is waiting for the order to blow it?”

Perceiving that this question had unsettled his Companions, the Prophet (ﷺ) told them to seek comfort by reciting: Hasbunallah wa ni’mal-Wakil.

This phrase is also mentioned in the Qur’an: Allah (swt) revealed it in Surah Al Imran Verse 173:

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَٰنًا وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ ٱلْوَكِيلُ

“Those to whom hypocrites said, ‘Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.’ But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, ‘Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.’”

Authentic narrations confirm this dua was also a source of strength for Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Ibn ‘Abbas reported:

“When Prophet Ibrahim was thrown into the fire, he said: ‘Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.’ Similarly, when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was told, ‘A great army of the pagans has gathered against you—fear them,’ this warning only increased him and the Muslims in faith, and they said: ‘Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).’”

Any Muslim knows Allah is the Most Merciful—He alone can remove harm and relieve affliction. Reciting “Hasbunallahu Wa Nimal Wakeel” is a powerful act of placing full trust in Allah, and it can be recited at any time, for any reason.

By declaring “Sufficient for us is Allah,” you surrender your worries to Him, acknowledging that His plan is far greater than any you might conceive. Sometimes Allah’s decrees differ from our desires, but they are always for our ultimate good.

Submitting to Allah’s will and entrusting our affairs to Him lifts a heavy burden from our shoulders—it is a form of spiritual healing. As the Qur’an reminds us: “And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him.” (65:3)

This phrase is easy to remember, and inshallah, it will grant you great strength to overcome life’s challenges—pushing you toward success in this world and the Hereafter. May Allah (swt) bless us all with the faith to trust in Him fully. Ameen.
