There is a popular saying that goes “those who say they can and those who say they can’t are usually both right.”
What this means is that what you say to yourself (either in private or in public) plays a crucial role in determining what happens in your life.
As you think, so you become.
If you are constantly saying to yourself, “Oh, I can’t do that right now, I am exhausted,” you are convincing yourself that whatever needs to be done is impossible. Such pessimism leaves you with no fighting chance.
We must be mindful of the words that come out of our mouths. Keep checking your attitude to gauge how you truly feel about a situation—this can have a profound impact on your behavior and the final outcome. If left unchecked, it can become self-fulfilling.
The short dua we will explore today is incredibly powerful, and inshallah, it can be recited to grant us the courage needed to stand firmly against those who oppose us. It also asks Allah for forgiveness and requests victory from Allah.
Full Rabbana Faghfirlana Zunubana Dua with Arabic and English Text:
ربَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Rabbana faghfirlana zunubana wa israfana fi amrina wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna alal qawmil kafireen
English Meaning: Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions [in keeping our duties to You], establish our feet firmly, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk.
By seeking forgiveness from Allah, you humble yourself, opening the way for the Mercy of Allah subhana wa ta’ala to flow. This dua begins by specifically asking Allah to forgive our guilty deeds, our sins of excess, and our transgressions of duty.
It then goes on to ask Allah for the strength to “establish our feet firmly”—a prayer for a solid foundation. Having a strong base is essential; you cannot build a house on sand. No matter how high-quality the materials you use—whether granite or quartz tiling—if the foundation is weak, the first adversity you face will bring the house crashing down. By strengthening us, Allah ensures we will not easily crumble when faced with our first trial. And make no mistake: we will all be tested at some point.
Finally, the dua concludes with a request for Allah to grant us victory. Inshallah, if we remember to recite these words with complete sincerity, this victory will be ours.
