Why Do We Make Dua?
Dua (supplication) is one of a believer’s most powerful tools—a means to connect with Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and seek His guidance, mercy, and blessings. While accepting Allah’s decree (both good and bad) is a virtue, it does not negate the importance of daily supplication. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught us the transformative power of dua through his own prayers, such as:
“O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have granted, and save me from the evil that You decreed. Indeed, You decree, and none can pass a decree against You. Indeed, he is not humiliated whom You have befriended. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.”
Dua allows us to seek protection from hardship, ease in difficulty, and the refinement of our destiny through Allah’s mercy and our righteous deeds. It is the simplest way to communicate with our Creator—Allah (swt) reminds us in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:186): “When My servants ask you about Me, (tell them), I am really close to them. I listen to the prayer of each supplicant when he invokes Me.”
What Are the Rabbana Duas?
In the Quran, there are 40 sacred duas that begin with the Arabic word Rabbana (رَبَّنَا), meaning “Our Lord.” These supplications cover a range of needs—forgiveness, wealth, success, protection, guidance, and more—and are among the most beloved and powerful Quranic prayers for believers to learn, memorize, and recite.
Each Rabbana dua carries profound context, often linked to the stories of Prophets or communities who turned to Allah in times of trial or gratitude. Below are all 40 Rabbana duas, complete with Arabic text, transliteration, English translation, and guidance on their use.
