一、Islamic Teachings to Combat Anxiety & Stress
1. Live in “Day-Tight Compartments” (Focus on the Present)
“A strong believer is better and more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone. Cherish that which benefits you (in the Hereafter), seek help from Allah, and do not lose heart. If trouble befalls you, do not say: ‘If I had not done that, this would not have happened.’ Instead, say: ‘Allah did what He ordained.’ Your ‘if’ opens the door for Satan.” (Sahih Muslim 2664)
2. Remember: “I’ll Handle It” (Trust in Allah’s Plan)
- What if I lose my job? I’ll handle it.
- What if my plans fail? I’ll handle it.
- What if I face rejection? I’ll handle it.
二、Authentic Duas for Anxiety, Worry, and Fear
1. Dua for Relief from Hardship (Prophet’s Supplication in Distress)
Arabic Text:
يَا حَىُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ
يَا ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ
Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth
Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām
O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief.
O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
2. Dua to Seek Refuge from Worry, Grief, and Debt
Allaahumma innee a’udhu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal’ajzi wal-kasali, wal-jubli wal-bukhli, wa dhala’id-dayni, wa ghalabatir-rijaal
O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men.
3. Dua for Allah’s Mercy and Guidance in Hardship
Allāhumma raḥmataka arjū falā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata `ayn. wa aṣliḥ lī sha’nī kullah. lā ilāha illā ant.
O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye. Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You.
4. Dua to Make the Qur’an a Source of Comfort
Allahumma inni ‘abduka, ibnu ‘abdika, ibnu amatika, naasiyati biyadika, maadin fi hukmuka, ‘adlun fi qada’uka, as’aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw asta’tharta bihi fi ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘indaka, an taj’al al-Qur’ana rabia’ qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa’a huzni, wa dhahaaba hammi.
O Allah, I am Your slave, the child of Your male slave and the child of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your hand; Your judgment upon me is assured, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creation, or kept hidden in Your knowledge of the unseen—make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my anxiety.
三、Practical Tips for Anxiety: Nurture Body, Mind, and Spirit
1. Eat a Nutritious Diet
- Fatty fish (salmon, sardines) rich in omega-3s (supports brain health).
- Probiotic-rich foods (yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut) to balance gut health (linked to mood regulation).
- Zinc-rich foods (cashews, egg yolks, lean beef) and B-vitamin sources (avocados, almonds, beans) to ease stress.
- Dark chocolate (in moderation) and fruits/vegetables (asparagus, berries) for antioxidants that reduce inflammation.
2. Prioritize Quality Sleep
- Aim for 7–8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
- Maintain a consistent sleep schedule (go to bed and wake up at the same time daily).
- Recite Ayatul Kursi (Qur’an 2:255) or Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas before sleep for spiritual protection and calm.
3. Stay Active
- Releases endorphins (natural mood boosters).
- Reduces stress hormones like cortisol.
- Connects you with nature (a reminder of Allah’s creation and mercy).
四、Conclusion: Trust Allah, Take Action
- Trust Allah: Recite the duas sincerely, knowing He hears every supplication.
