He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed.
In life, we all encounter various trials—a truth that has been revealed to us. These trials are not meant to torment us, but to test and refine our character. It is also stated that Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.
We may face difficulties and challenges, but none are beyond our capacity to handle. All the trials in our lives can push us to our limits, yet never enough to make us fall. Subhanallah.
It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said that those in Jahannam will be the people of desires and passions, while Jannah will belong to those who have endured adversities.
There is also a mention of a dua that can help with financial hardships. Ali reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) taught a specific dua to seek Allah’s help in relieving even mountainous debts.
Dua for Debt Relief
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Transliteration: Allahumma akfini bihalalika an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwaka
Translation of the Dua
The meaning of the dua is: “O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You.”
Full Narrative of the Dua
Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
A slave who had made a contract with his master to pay for his freedom came to me and said: “I am unable to fulfill my obligation, so help me.” I said to him: “Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me? It will surely prove so effective that if you have a debt as large as a huge mountain, Allah will surely pay it for you. Say: ‘Allahumm-akfini bihalalika ‘an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika ‘amman siwaka (O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You).”
