Indeed, those who have believed, and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabians—whoever believed in God and the Last Day and did righteous deeds—will have their reward with their Lord. They will not fear, nor will they grieve. (Quran 2:62)
Islam shares several key beliefs with Christianity, particularly the belief in one God and the reverence for Jesus (peace be upon him). Muslims are required to believe in Jesus as a prophet and messenger of God. His life, miraculous birth, and the miracles he performed are affirmed in the Quran. However, Muslims do not consider Jesus as the Son of God, a belief contrary to the Christian doctrine.
The Quran, which was revealed to the final prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him), over 23 years, upholds the message of worshiping the One True God alone. This consistent message is also reflected in the previous scriptures given to earlier prophets, including Jesus.

GOD DOES NOT HAVE A SON OR A PARTNER
In Islam, God’s oneness is a fundamental belief. The Quran repeatedly emphasizes that God has no children or partners, which directly contrasts with the Christian belief in the divinity of Jesus (peace be upon him).
God is the One who owns the heavens and the earth. He has no offspring, nor does He have any partner in ruling over them. He created everything, and He determined its measure perfectly. (Quran 25:2)
Say, “Praise be to God, who has not taken a son, and who has no partner in His dominion, and who has no protector out of weakness. And glorify Him with a great glorification.” (Quran 17:111)
JESUS (PBUH) IS NOT THE SON OF GOD BUT A PROPHET OF GOD
Islam holds Jesus (peace be upon him) in high regard, but he is viewed as a prophet, not as a divine figure. He is part of the long line of messengers sent by God to guide humanity.
The Messiah, son of Mary, would never be too proud to be a servant of God, nor would the angels who are near to God. Those who are too proud to worship Him will be gathered before Him in humiliation. (Quran 4:172)
The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. Many messengers came before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both ate food. See how We make the signs clear to them, yet they are deluded from the truth. (Quran 5:75)
JESUS (PBUH) WAS NOT KILLED OR CRUCIFIED BUT WAS RAISED TO GOD
Islam rejects the crucifixion of Jesus (peace be upon him). The Quran asserts that Jesus was not killed but rather raised to God, and this belief is integral to Islamic theology.
Remember when God said, “O Jesus, I will certainly take you and raise you to Me, and purify you from those who disbelieve. And I will make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning the matters in which you differ.” (Quran 3:55)
Say, “If the Most Merciful had a son, I would be the first to worship him.” Glory be to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, above what they describe. (Quran 43:81-82)
THOSE WHO ASCRIBE PARTNERS TO GOD WILL BE DENIED PARADISE
The Quran makes it clear that associating partners with God is the gravest sin. Those who ascribe divinity to anyone besides God, including Jesus, will be barred from entering Paradise, as this is considered a form of shirk (polytheism).
Those who say, “God is the Messiah, son of Mary,” have certainly disbelieved. The Messiah himself said, “O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord.” Whoever associates others with God in worship will be forbidden Paradise, and their dwelling will be the Fire. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers. (Quran 5:72)
GOD DOES NOT FORGIVE ASSOCIATING OTHERS WITH HIM
While God is merciful, He does not forgive those who die without repenting from associating partners with Him. This emphasizes the significance of maintaining the purity of monotheism in Islam.
Indeed, God does not forgive those who associate partners with Him, but He forgives anything else for whomever He wills. And whoever associates others with God has certainly committed a severe sin. (Quran 4:48)
Indeed, God does not forgive the association of others with Him, but He forgives anything else for whomever He wills. And whoever associates partners with God has certainly gone far astray. (Quran 4:116)
THE NATURE OF PROPHETHOOD IN ISLAM
In Islam, all the prophets are considered to be human beings chosen by God to deliver His message. They were not divine but were sent to guide people to worship the One True God.
We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ only as a mercy to the worlds. (Quran 21:107)
JESUS (PBUH) AND THE ROLE OF MIRACLES
Jesus (peace be upon him) performed many miracles by God’s permission. These miracles were signs of God’s power and His mercy toward humanity, but they did not indicate divinity.
And ˹remember˺ when you ˹O Jesus˺ healed the blind and the leper by My will, and when you brought the dead to life by My will, and when I restrained the Children of Israel from ˹the threat of˺ you… (Quran 5:110)
GOD’S MESSAGE IN THE QURAN: CONTINUITY AND CONSISTENCY OF DIVINE REVELATION
The Quran affirms that all prophets brought the same essential message: the worship of one God. Jesus (peace be upon him) was one of the messengers in a long line, all calling to monotheism.
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of God. (Quran 2:2)
JESUS (PBUH) AS A SERVANT AND MESSENGER OF GOD
While Jesus (peace be upon him) is greatly respected in Islam, he is considered a servant and messenger of God. He fulfilled his role in delivering God’s message to the people of his time.
And ˹remember˺ when God said, “O Jesus, I will take you and raise you to Myself. I will deliver you from those who disbelieve…” (Quran 3:55)
THE RETURN OF JESUS (PBUH) BEFORE THE DAY OF JUDGMENT
Muslims believe in the second coming of Jesus (peace be upon him) before the Day of Judgment. He will return to defeat the false messiah (the Antichrist) and establish justice and peace.
There is no one among the People of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment, he will be a witness against them. (Quran 4:159)
