{"id":17353,"date":"2025-12-18T06:09:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T14:09:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jislam.com\/?p=17353"},"modified":"2025-12-18T06:09:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T14:09:16","slug":"dua-for-safar-supplication-for-the-travelling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jislam.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/18\/dua-for-safar-supplication-for-the-travelling\/","title":{"rendered":"Dua For Safar (Supplication For The Travelling)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">What is Safar?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">Safar (\u0633\u0641\u0631) is an Arabic term meaning &#8220;travel,&#8221; &#8220;journey,&#8221; or &#8220;transportation.&#8221; It is also the second month of the Islamic lunar calendar\u2014a month historically associated with Muslims traveling to gather provisions.<\/div>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">In Islamic tradition, the Prophet Muhammad (\ufdfa) taught specific duas (supplications) for those undertaking a journey, regardless of the mode of transport (airplane, car, boat, etc.). Below are authentic supplications and guidance for safe travel, rooted in the Sunnah.<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Dua for Travel (Before Departure)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">The Prophet (\ufdfa) and his companions recited this supplication when beginning a journey. The steps to recite are:<\/div>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<ol class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">\n<li>Say\u00a0<strong>Bismillah<\/strong>\u00a0(In the Name of Allah) three times.<\/li>\n<li>Say\u00a0<strong>Alhamdulillah<\/strong>\u00a0(All praise is due to Allah).<\/li>\n<li>Recite:\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Subhan Alladhi Sakhkhara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin. Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunqalibun<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<p>(Glory is to Him Who has subjected this [transport] to us, and we were not capable of doing so. Surely, to our Lord we will return.)<\/p>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<p><em>Note: This supplication is also referenced in Surah Zukhruf (Verses 13-14).<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Say\u00a0<strong>Alhamdulillah<\/strong>\u00a0three times and\u00a0<strong>Allahu Akbar<\/strong>\u00a0(Allah is the Greatest) three times.<\/li>\n<li>Recite:\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Subhanaka Inni Qad Zalamtu Nafsi Faghfirli Fa-Innahu La Yaghfirudh-Dhunuba Illa Ant<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<p>(Glory be to You! Indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me\u2014for none forgives sins except You.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Context from the Sunnah<\/h3>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">Ali bin Rabi\u2019ah narrated: \u201cI saw Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) have an animal brought to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup, he said \u2018Bismillah\u2019 three times. After mounting, he said \u2018Alhamdulillah,\u2019 then recited the supplication about Allah subjecting the transport to us. He then said \u2018Alhamdulillah\u2019 three times and \u2018Allahu Akbar\u2019 three times, followed by the supplication for forgiveness. Then he laughed. I asked, \u2018O Commander of the Believers, why do you laugh?\u2019 He replied, \u2018I saw the Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) do the same, then he laughed. I asked him why, and he said: \u201cYour Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when they say, \u2018O my Lord, forgive me my sins\u2014indeed, no one other than You forgives sins.\u2019\u201d\u2019\u201d<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Simplified Travel Supplication<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">\n<li><strong>Transliteration<\/strong>: Bismiallahi wa alhamdu liallahi. Subhanaalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Translation<\/strong>: In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah. Fa-inna nas\u2019aluka khayr hadhihi alqaryah wa khayr ahlaha, wa na\u02bfudhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahlaha wa sharri ma fihi.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Translation<\/strong>: \u201cO Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they cover, Lord of the seven earths and all that they contain, Lord of the devils and those they mislead, Lord of the winds and all they carry\u2014we ask You for the good of this town and the good of its people. We seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is in it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Protection Supplication for When You Alight<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">\n<li><strong>Arabic Text<\/strong>: \u0623\u0639\u0648\u0630 \u0628\u0643\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u062a\u0627\u0645\u0627\u062a \u0645\u0646 \u0634\u0631 \u0645\u0627 \u062e\u0644\u0642<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transliteration<\/strong>: A\u2019udhu bikalimat-illahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaqa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Translation<\/strong>: \u201cI seek refuge with the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Context from the Sunnah<\/h4>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">Khaulah bint Hakim (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: \u201cI heard the Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) say: \u2018Whoever alights somewhere and recites this supplication will not be harmed until they leave that place.\u2019\u201d<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Sunnah Guidance for Safe Travel<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Travel with Companions<\/h3>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">The Prophet (\ufdfa) advised: \u201cIf people knew what I know about the dangers of traveling alone, no rider would travel alone at night.\u201d In another narration, he said: \u201cA single rider is accompanied by Satan, two riders by two Satans, and three riders form a group (of believers, protected from such harm).\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"container-Uxvbjy md-box-line-break wrapper-GYqxgQ undefined\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">While modern travel is safer than in the Prophet\u2019s time, traveling with others remains wise\u2014you are less likely to make mistakes, face exploitation, or feel vulnerable, especially during long or night journeys.<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">When Ascending Heights (e.g., Planes, Mountains)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">Ibn \u2018Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: \u201cWhenever the Prophet (\ufdfa) and his companions ascended a height, they would say \u2018Allahu Akbar.\u2019 When they descended, they would say \u2018Subhan Allah\u2019 (Glory be to Allah).\u201d<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"header-iWP5WJ auto-hide-last-sibling-br\">Shortened Prayers While Traveling<\/h3>\n<div class=\"auto-hide-last-sibling-br paragraph-pP9ZLC paragraph-element br-paragraph-space\">Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated: \u201cThe Prophet (\ufdfa) once stayed for nineteen days and prayed shortened prayers (qasr). So when we traveled and stayed for nineteen days, we also shortened our prayers; if we stayed longer, we offered the full prayer.\u201d This Sunnah allows travelers to shorten obligatory prayers (reducing four-unit prayers to two) to ease the burden of journeying.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Safar?
