Marriage\u00a0is a gift to the spouses to lead a happy life full of tranquility and compassion, so God describes this special relationship in a very beautiful and emotional expression in his book,\u00a0Qur\u2019an.<\/p>\n
Here is\u00a0What Quran says about marriage<\/em>\u00a0with three Quranic verses about love and marriage, in Arabic and English:<\/p>\n Allah says in the Quran:<\/p>\n O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.\u201d<\/strong> [Quran 4:1]<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Adam opened his eyes and looked into the beautiful face of a woman gazing down at him. Adam was surprised and asked the woman why she had been created. She revealed that she was to ease his loneliness and bring tranquility to him. The Angels questioned Adam.\u00a0They knew that Adam possessed knowledge of things they did not know about and the knowledge mankind would need to occupy the earth.\u00a0They said \u2018who is this?\u2019 and Adam replied \u2018this is Eve\u2019.<\/p>\n Eve is\u00a0\u201cHawwa\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0in Arabic; it comes from the root word\u00a0\u201cHay \u062d\u064e\u064a\u0651\u201d<\/strong>; meaning\u00a0living. Eve is also an English variant of the old Hebrew word\u00a0\u201cHavva\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0also deriving from\u00a0\u201cHay\u201d.<\/strong>\u00a0Eve was named so, because she was made from a part of him, Adam; and he was a living being.<\/p>\n Both Jewish and Christian traditions also maintain that Eve was created from Adam\u2019s rib, although in a literal translation of the Jewish tradition,\u00a0rib\u00a0is sometimes referred to as\u00a0side.<\/p>\n It\u2019s narrated that Eve was created while Adam was sleeping from his shortest left rib and then after sometime, she was clothed with flesh. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used the story of Eve\u2019s creation from Adam\u2019s rib as a basis for imploring people to be gentle and kind to women.<\/p>\n Treat women nicely, for a woman is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely.\u201d<\/strong> [Saheeh Al-Bukhari]<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n So the Prophet (saw) urges Mulsim men to treat women in the nicest way and to forgive their downsides.<\/p>\n There are many verses in Quran referring to relationships and marriage as a special relationship:<\/p>\n Allah chose to describe the special relationship between a man and his wife, marriage, as a garment:<\/p>\n They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them\u201d<\/strong> \u00a0[<\/strong>Quran 2:187<\/strong>]<\/strong><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Indeed, the word\u00a0\u201cClothing\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0as used in this context is rich with meanings:<\/p>\n In our day-to-day life, we see many uses for clothing. Not only does our dress act as a beautification, but it also covers any defects that we may have on our body \u2013 if a person has a scar or burn mark on his body, the clothing will cover this from others around him and thus, they wouldn\u2019t know that he has such a \u2018defect\u2019.<\/p>\n Quran seems to direct husband and wife to play the same role in relation to one another. If the wife has spiritual defects or lacks something in her character, then the husband must\u00a0 cover these up and not expose her shortcomings to others. The wife too, must cover up and hide her husband\u2019s deficiencies and weaknesses and protect her mate.<\/p>\n Garments also conceal the body and protect the wearer so that a husband and wife are each other\u2019s protectors and helpers and each of them safeguards their partner\u2019s honor shaping the state of marriage into a haven and a sanctuary where each should feel safe and secure, sheltered in one another\u2019s care and guardianship.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Clothing implies peace and tranquility and a husband and a wife should find in one another peace and tranquility.<\/p>\n Allah directs the believers even<\/strong> upon disagreement times<\/strong> to the best manner in relationships:<\/p>\n Waiving [your right] is nearer to godliness, so do not forget kindness towards one another: God sees what you do.<\/strong> [Quran, 2: 237]<\/strong><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Allah says in the Quran about Affection and Mercy in marriage:<\/p>\n And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Not only has Allah created these two individuals, but in order to find peace and harmony between the two of them, He himself has placed affection and mercy between them so that they can live a life of tranquility. Moreover, Allah makes affection and mercy, which were derived from His holy names\u00a0\u201cThe Ever-affectionate<\/strong>\u201c\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cThe Most-Merciful<\/strong>\u201c, the bases of the married life.\u00a0The relationship between spouses is based on affection and mercy, not on ardent love, desire and passion.<\/p>\n It is a relationship that is based on quiet love\u00a0(Affection)\u00a0and mutual mercy, not illusions of love that fail to withstand reality or romantic fantasies which fail to create a successful marriage.\u00a0The Messenger of Allah,\u00a0peace be upon him, gave us the best example of loving his wives. It was narrated in the pure\u00a0Sunnah\u00a0(tradition) that the Prophet was careful to put his mouth on the same place from which his wife \u2018Aa\u2019ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, drank. Also during his final illness, he used her\u00a0Siwaak\u00a0(tooth stick) and died while he was reclined against her chest, between her neck and bosom.\u00a0What kind of love is nobler and more sublime than this?<\/p>\n Quran says that marriage is one of the noblest human relationships.
