Shaykh Ibn al-\u2018Uthaymeen explained these primary types of major <em>kufr<\/em>, each reflecting a direct opposition to the fundamentals of faith:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Kufr of Denial (Kufr al-Ju\u1e25\u016bd):<\/strong> This is when a person outright denies something essential in Islam, such as the existence of All\u0101h, the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), or the truth of the Qur\u2019an, despite knowing its truth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kufr of Arrogance and Rebellion (Kufr al-Istikb\u0101r):<\/strong> This type occurs when someone knows the truth of Islam but refuses to submit to it out of pride or arrogance. The example of Satan\u2019s refusal to bow to Adam illustrates this type, as he recognized All\u0101h\u2019s command but rejected it out of arrogance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kufr of Doubt (Kufr ash-Shakk):<\/strong> Here, a person harbors doubt or uncertainty about fundamental beliefs, such as doubting the existence of All\u0101h, the Day of Judgment, or the Prophethood. This lack of conviction can lead to rejection of core beliefs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kufr of Hypocrisy (Kufr an-Nif\u0101q):<\/strong> This is when a person outwardly displays belief in Islam while inwardly disbelieving.
