The Republic of Maldives, formerly known as the Maldives Islands, abbreviated as Maldives, is an archipelago country in the Indian Ocean. About 600 kilometers from southern India and about 750 kilometers from southwestern Sri Lanka. 26 natural atolls and 1192 coral islands are distributed in a sea area of 90000 square kilometers, of which about 200 islands are inhabited.
