In the name of Allah, the Extremely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. All praises and thanks are for Allah, The Extremely Merciful, The Especially Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgement. You Alone we worship, You Alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those whom You have favoured, not of those who incur (Your) anger nor of those who have gone astray. The had\u012bth mentions: \u201cThe man went with them (the people of the tribe) and started spitting (on the bite) and reciting S\u016brah al-F\u0101tihah until the patient was healed and started walking as if he had not been sick.\u201d (Bukh\u0101r\u012b) It was narrated from Ab\u016b Sa\u02bf\u012bd al-Khudr\u012b (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa described S\u016brah al-F\u0101tihah as a ruqyah, and he approved of the Sah\u0101b\u012b (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) who recited it as a ruqyah for the one who had been stung by a scorpion. (Bukh\u0101r\u012b) Ibn al-Qayyim (ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h) said: \u2018If one\u2019s faith, soul, and spirit are strong, and if he internalises the meaning and essence of S\u016brah al-F\u0101tihah, recites it and then blows on the affected person followed by his spittle, this will counter the effects incurred by evil beings. And Allah knows best.\u2019\u00a0(Z\u0101d al-Ma\u02bf\u0101d)<\/strong><\/p>\n

All\u0101hu l\u0101 il\u0101ha ill\u0101 Huwa-l-\u1e24ayyu-l-Qayy\u016bm, l\u0101 ta\u2019khudhuh\u016b sinatuw-wa l\u0101 nawm, lah\u016b m\u0101 fi-s-sam\u0101w\u0101ti wa m\u0101 fi-l-ar\u1e0d, man dh\u0101\u2019lladh\u012b yashfa\u02bfu \u02bfindah\u016b ill\u0101 bi-idhnih, ya\u02bflamu m\u0101 bayna ayd\u012bhim wa m\u0101 khalfahum, wa l\u0101 yu\u1e25\u012b\u1e6d\u016bna bi-shay\u2019im-min \u02bfilmih\u012b ill\u0101 bi-m\u0101 sh\u0101\u2019, wasi\u02bfa kursiyyuhu-s-sam\u0101w\u0101ti wa-l-ar\u1e0d, wa l\u0101 ya\u2019\u016bduh\u016b \u1e25if\u1e93uhum\u0101 wa Huwa-l-\u02bfAlliyu-l-\u02bfA\u1e93\u012bm.<\/em><\/pre>\n
Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him Alone belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except with His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kurs\u012b extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. (2:255)<\/strong><\/pre>\n
The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cIn S\u016brah al-Baqarah, there is a verse which is the best verse of the Qur\u2019\u0101n. It is never recited in a house except that the Shayt\u0101n leaves: it is \u0100yah al-Kurs\u012b.\u201d (H\u0101kim) Ubayy ibn Ka\u2018b (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) reported that he had a vessel in which he kept dates. He found that its quantity was decreasing. So he kept guard on it one night and saw a creature that resembled an adolescent boy. Ubayy greeted him and he returned his greeting. Ubayy then asked him: \u201cWhat are you, a jinn\u012b or a human?\u201d He replied: \u201cA jinn\u012b.\u201d So he said to him: \u201cShow me your hand.\u201d So he showed him his hand, and it looked like a dog\u2019s paw with dog\u2019s fur. He said: \u201cThis is how the jinn are created. The jinn know that there is no one amongst them who is stronger than me.\u201d Ubayy asked him: \u201cWhat made you come here?\u201d He replied: \u201cWe heard that you are a man who loves charity, and we came to take our share from your food.\u2019\u201d Ubayy asked him: \u201cWhat will protect us from you?\u201d He replied: \u201cReading \u0100yah al-Kurs\u012b from S\u016brah al-Baqarah [i.e. the verse above]. If you read it in the morning, you will be protected from us till the evening. And if you read it in the evening, you will be protected from us till the morning.\u201d Ubayy said: \u201cThe following morning, Ubayy went to the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa and told him about what had happened. The Messenger of Allah g said: \u201cThe evil one spoke the truth.\u201d (\u1e6cabar\u0101n\u012b) Ab\u016b Hurayrah (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) reports: \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa put me in charge of watching over the donations of food collected at the end of Ramadh\u0101n. Then someone came and snatched some food, and I grabbed him. He said: \u2018Let me go. I shall do it no more\u2026\u2019\u201d And he went on to recount the had\u012bth, saying: \u201cThe third time he said to me: \u2018I shall teach you some words by which Allah will benefit you. When you lie down in your bed, recite \u0100yah al-Kurs\u012b from beginning to end; a guardian angel will stay by you and no devil will approach you, until you wake up in the morning.\u2019 I tried his method, and when I awoke in the morning, I told the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa what he had said, and he \ufdfa said to me: \u2018Even though he is a liar, he spoke the truth. Do you know who you were talking to Ab\u016b Hurayrah?\u2019 I said: \u2018No.\u2019 He \ufdfa said: \u2018That was Shayt\u0101n.\u2019\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah, His angels, His books and His messengers, [saying], \u201cWe make no distinction between any of His Messengers.\u201d And they say, \u201cWe hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination.\u201d Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. \u201cOur Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.\u201d (2:285-6)<\/strong><\/pre>\n
The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cAllah inscribed a book 2,000 years before He created the heavens and the earth, from which the last two verses of S\u016brah al-Baqarah were revealed. If they are recited for three nights, no shayt\u0101n will remain in the house.\u201d\u00a0(Tirmidh\u012b)<\/strong><\/p>\n

She says: \u201cDuring his last illness from which he passed away, the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa used to blow over himself. But when his sickness intensified, I used to (recite and then) blow over him using his own hands because of their blessings.\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2018Uqbah (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cShall I inform you of the best words with which you can seek Allah\u2019s protection?\u201d I said: \u201cYes.\u201d He \ufdfa said: \u201cS\u016brah al-Falaq and S\u016brah al-N\u0101s.\u201d\u00a0(Ahmad)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2018These S\u016brahs are extremely effective in repelling magic, evil eye, and the rest of the evils\u2026The need for a slave to seek Allah\u2019s protection with these S\u016brahs is greater than his need for eating, drinking and clothes.\u2019\u00a0(Ibn al-Qayyim (ra\u1e25imahull\u0101h))<\/strong><\/p>\n

Khawla bint Hak\u012bm Sulamiyya (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u2018anh\u0101) narrates that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cWhoever stops at a stopping place and then says [the above], nothing shall harm him until he sets off again from that place.\u201d (Muslim 2708) Ab\u016b Hurayrah (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u2018anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cWhoever recites [the above] three times in the evening will not be harmed by insect stings in that night.\u201d Suhayl (a narrator) said: \u201cSo our family used to learn it and they used to say it every night. A girl among them was stung, and she did not feel any pain.\u201d\u00a0(Tirmidh\u012b 3604)<\/strong><\/p>\n

I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah \u2013 which neither the upright nor the corrupt may overcome \u2013 from the evil of what He created, of what He brought into existence, and of what He scattered, from the evil of what descends from the heavens, and of what rises up to them, from the evil of what He scattered in the earth and of what emerges from it, from the evil trials of night and day, and from the evil of every night visitor, except the night visitor who comes with good, O Merciful One.<\/pre>\n
Kh\u0101lid ibn al-Wal\u012bd (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) would wake up from fright at night and would come out of his house with his sword. It was feared that someone would get hurt. So he complained to the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa. The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said to him: \u201cIndeed Jibr\u012bl said to me that a powerful and crafty jinn\u012b was plotting against you, so say [the above].\u201d Kh\u0101lid (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) said these words and this stopped happening.\u00a0(Tabar\u0101n\u012b in Mu\u2019jam al-Kab\u012br 3838)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shu\u02bfayb narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cWhen one of you becomes frightened during sleep, then let him say: [the above]. Ibn \u02bfAbb\u0101s (radiy All\u0101h\u016b \u2018anhum\u0101) narrated that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa used to seek Allah\u2019s protection for \u1e24asan and \u1e24usayn (radiy All\u0101h\u016b \u02bfanhum\u0101) and say: \u201cYour forefather (i.e. Ibr\u0101h\u012bm) used to seek refuge with Allah for Isma\u02bf\u012bl and Is\u1e25\u0101q by reciting the [the above].\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b 3371)\u00a0<\/strong>J\u0101bir (radiy All\u0101h\u016b \u2018anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u201cWhen the evening comes, keep your children in, for the devils come out at that time. Then when part of the night has passed, let them go. And close the doors and mention the name of Allah, for Shayt\u0101n does not open a closed door. Forgive us our sins and our errors. You are the Lord of good people. Send down mercy from Your mercy, and remedy from Your remedy on this pain so that it heals.<\/pre>\n

Ibn \u02bfAbb\u0101s (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u2018anhum\u0101) narrates that the Prophet \ufdfa paid a visit to a sick Bedouin. The Prophet \ufdfa when visiting a patient used to say [the above] (twice). So the Prophet \ufdfa said [the above] to the Bedouin. The Bedouin said, \u201cYou say, may Allah cure me? No, for it is a fever which boils in (the body of) an old man, and will lead him to the grave.\u201d The Prophet \ufdfa said, \u201cYes, then may it be as you say.\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b 3616)<\/strong><\/p>\n
