Zayd b. Kh\u0101lid Al-Juhan\u012b (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa led us in the Fajr prayer at Hudaiybiyyah after a rainy night. On completion of the prayer, he faced the people and said, \u201cDo you know what your Lord has said (revealed)?\u201d The people replied, \u201cAllah and His Messenger know better.\u201d He \ufdfa said, \u201cAllah has said, \u2018In this morning some of my slaves remained as true believers and some became non-believers; whoever said [the above] had belief in Me and he disbelieves in the stars, and whoever said that it rained because of a particular star had no belief in Me but believes in that star.\u2019\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b 846, Muslim 71)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Al\u1e25amdu-lill\u0101hi Rabbi-l-\u02bf\u0101lam\u012bn, ar-Ra\u1e25m\u0101ni-r-Ra\u1e25\u012bm, M\u0101liki yawmi-d-d\u012bn, l\u0101 il\u0101ha illa-ll\u0101hu yaf\u02bfalu m\u0101 yur\u012bdu, All\u0101humma Anta-ll\u0101hu l\u0101 il\u0101ha illa Anta-l-Ganiyyu wa na\u1e25nu-l-fuqara\u0304, anzil \u02bfalayna-l-ghaytha wa-j\u02bfal ma anzalta lana\u0304 quwwatan wa bala\u0304gan ila\u0304 \u1e25\u012bnin, ash-hadu anna-lla\u0304ha \u02bfala\u0304 kulli shay\u2019in Qad\u012br, wa ann\u012b \u02bfabdu-lla\u0304hi wa ras\u016bluh.<\/em><\/pre>\n
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, the All-Merciful, the Compassionate, Owner of the Day of Judgment. There is no god but Allah; He does as He wishes. O Allah, You are Allah and there is no god but You, the Infinitely Rich, and we are poor. Send down the rain and make what You have sent down strength for us, and provision for a time. I bear witness that Allah is over all things All-Powerful, and I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger.<\/pre>\n
\u201cAnas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u2018anhu) narrated: \u201cA man came into the mosque on Friday while the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa was standing and delivering the sermon, and said: \u2018Messenger of Allah, our wealth has been destroyed and our means of survival have been cut off. Pray to Allah to give us rain.\u2019 So the Messenger of Allah raised his hands and said [the above]. \u201cBy Allah, we could not see any cloud in the sky \u2013 not even a tiny one. There was no house or home between us and Sala (a mountain near Madinah). There appeared a cloud behind him that was like a shield. When it was in the middle of the sky it spread out and it started to rain. By Allah, we did not see the sun for a week. Then the man entered the mosque the following Friday while the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa was standing and delivering the sermon. He said: \u2018Messenger of Allah, out wealth has been destroyed and our means of survival have been cut off [because of the rains]. Pray to Allah to give us respite.\u201d The Messenger of Allah raised his hands and said [the above]. The rain stopped and we went outside, and the sun was shining.\u201d\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b 1013)<\/strong><\/p>\n

O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain.<\/pre>\n
\u02bf\u0100ish\u0101 (rad\u0323iy Alla\u0304hu \u2018anha\u0304) related that the people complained to the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa about the lack of rain. He instructed that a minbar be positioned in the place where salah was offered. He made an appointment for the people to come out. The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa came out when the upper edge of the sun was appearing. He sat on the minbar, magnified and praised Allah, and then said: \u201cYou have complained about the barrenness of your homes, and the delay of the rain beyond its proper time. Allah has commanded you to supplicate to Him, and He has promised you that He will answer your prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then he said [the above]. Then he lifted his hands and he continued to raise them until the whites of his armpits showed. After that he turned his back to the people and he turned his cloak whilst raising his hands. Then he turned towards the people and came and performed two rak\u02bfahs. Allah made the clouds form and there were thunder and lightning, and it rained, by the permission of Allah. He had hardly finished his rak\u02bfah before there was a flood.<\/p>\n
When he saw them hastening to find shelter, he smiled until his molars showed. Then he said: \u201cI bear witness that Allah has power over all things, and that I am the servant and Messenger of Allah.\u201d\u00a0(Ab\u016b D\u0101w\u016bd 1176)<\/strong><\/p>\n

O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us. O Allah, [let it fall] on the pastures, hills, valleys and the roots of trees.<\/pre>\n
Anas b. M\u0101lik (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) said, \u201cA person entered the Mosque on a Friday through the gate facing the Daril- Qada\u2019 and the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa was standing delivering the Khutba (sermon). The man stood in front of the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa and said, \u2018O Messenger of Allah \ufdfa, livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; please ask Allah for rain.\u2019 So the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa raised both his hands and said, \u2018O Allah! Bless us with rain. O Allah! Bless us with rain. O Allah! Bless us with rain!\u201d<\/p>\n
Anas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) added, \u201cBy Allah, there were no clouds in the sky and there was no house or building between us and the mountain of Sal\u02bfa. Then a big cloud like a shield appeared from behind it (i.e. Sal\u02bfa Mountain) and when it came in the middle of the sky, it spread and then rained. By Allah! We could not see the sun for a week.<\/p>\n
The next Friday, a person entered through the same gate and the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa was delivering the Friday Khutba and the man stood in front of him and said, \u2018O Messenger of Allah \ufdfa! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; Please pray to Allah to withhold rain.\u2019 \u201cAnas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) added, \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa raised both his hands and said, \u2018O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us. O Allah, [let it fall] on the pastures, hills, valleys and the roots of trees.\u201d Anas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) added, \u201cThe rain stopped and we came out, walking in the sun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shar\u012bk asked Anas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) whether it was the same person who had asked for rain the previous Friday. Anas (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) replied that he did not know.\u00a0(Bukh\u0101r\u012b 1014)<\/strong><\/p>\n
Upon Hearing Thunder<\/strong><\/h2>\n

How Perfect is the One Whom the thunder exalts with praise of Him, as do the angels in awe of Him.<\/pre>\n
It is reported that when Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u2018anhu) would hear thunder, he would say [the above]. He would then say: \u201cThis is a severe warning for the people on earth.\u201d\u00a0(\u0650Al-Adab al-Mufrad 723, Muwatta\u2019 3641)<\/strong><\/p>\n

All\u0101humma inn\u012b as\u2019aluka khayrah\u0101 wa khayra m\u0101 f\u012bh\u0101 wa khayra m\u0101 ursilat bih, wa a\u02bf\u016bdhu bika min sharrih\u0101 wa sharri m\u0101 f\u012bh\u0101 wa sharri m\u0101 ursilat bihi.<\/em><\/pre>\n
O Allah, indeed I ask You for its good, the good of what is in it, and the good of that it was sent with. And I seek Your protection from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil that it was sent with.<\/pre>\n
\u02bf\u0100isha\u0304 (rad\u0323iy Alla\u0304hu \u02bfanha\u0304) reported: \u201cWhenever the wind was stormy, the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa used to say [the above] and when there was a thunder and lightning in the sky, his colour changed, and he went out and in, backwards and forwards; and when the rain came, he felt relieved, and I noticed that (the sign of relief) on his face.<\/p>\n
\u02bf\u0100isha\u0304 (rad\u0323iy Alla\u0304hu \u02bfanha\u0304) asked him (about it) and he said: It (thunder and lightning) may be as the people of \u02bfAd said: When they saw a cloud coming to their valley they said:\u201d It is a cloud which would give us rain\u201d\u00a0(46:24)<\/strong>.\u00a0(Muslim 899)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salamah b. Aqwa\u02bf (ra\u1e0diy All\u0101hu \u02bfanhu) narrated that when the wind would blow severely, the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa would say [the above].\u00a0(Ibn Hibb\u0101n 1008)<\/strong><\/p>\n
Upon Seeing the New Moon<\/strong><\/h2>\n
