The United Arab Emirates (UAE), also known as Abu Dhabi, is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. At the beginning of the 19th century, Britain invaded the Persian Gulf region and became a British protectorate in 1820. In 1971, Britain announced the termination of the protection treaty. On December 2 of the same year, the United Arab Emirates was declared as a federal state consisting of six emirates: the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Emirate of Dubai, the Emirate of Sharjah, the Emirate of Fujairah, the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and the Emirate of Ajman.
