The State of Qatar, abbreviated as Qatar, is located on the Qatar Peninsula on the southwest coast of the Persian Gulf, with its capital in Doha. It belongs to a tropical desert climate, with low and flat terrain throughout the country, and abundant oil and natural gas resources. The total area is 11521 square kilometers, with a coastline of 563 kilometers. There is no clear provincial administrative division, and the country is divided into 9 regions centered around some major cities. The total population of Qatar is 2.79 million, [40] belonging to the Arab ethnic group. Islam is the state religion of Qatar, and the majority of its residents practice Islam. Arabic is the official language, and English is also widely used locally.
In the 7th century AD, Qatar was part of the Arab Empire. From 1517 to 1776, it was successively ruled by Portugal, the Netherlands, and England. In 1846, Sani bin Mohammed established the Emirate of Qatar. In 1872, it was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire’s territory. In 1882, Britain invaded and declared the region as a “protected area” of Britain. In 1970, the first interim constitution was promulgated, which established Qatar as an independent monarchy with Islam as the state religion. It is the world’s largest producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas, with abundant revenue from oil and gas exports.
