The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Arabic: المكةالأردنّيّالهاشميّ, English: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan), abbreviated as Jordan, is located in western Asia, northwest of the Arabian Peninsula, adjacent to Palestine and Israel to the west, Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the southeast and south, and the Gulf of Aqaba, which borders the Red Sea to the southwest, is the only seaport. Jordan was originally a part of Palestine. At the beginning of the 7th century AD, it belonged to the territory of the Arab Empire. In 1517 AD, it belonged to the Ottoman Empire. After World War I, it became a British mandate. In 1921, with the Jordan River as the boundary, the west was still called Palestine and the east was called the Emirate of Outer Jordan.
